Kohler, a behemoth in the Bathroom industry released the Verdera Voice Lighted Mirror, smart mirror at CES 2018.
This mirror is being marketed as their first ‘smart mirror’, here is their pitch:

The mirror itself is excellent, and looks like it has the quality of hardware design and finish one comes to expect from Kohler. The software and functionality related to the ‘smart’ in the ‘smart mirror’ concept leaves a lot to be desired.
The main smart features of the Kohler smart mirror are:

Say the words to enjoy the mirror’s optimally bright lighting for styling hair or applying makeup.
Everyday Assistance
Integrated voice-assistant technology allows you to play music, control your shower and more — instantly. All you have to do is ask.
This is where you realize it is an underwhelming and unimaginative take on what a smart mirror should be. At a price point that starts at over $1,200 for the smallest size, it is not cheap for what basically is an Amazon echo dot stuck behind a mirror. With Alexa skills to control the lighting and some other Kohler Konnect products.
Is this what a smart mirror should be like? We don’t believe so. A smart mirror should, in our opinion be a true reflection of the person looking into it, with enhanced internal health, fitness, and vital tracked data reflected back at them. Along with information required for their interaction with the world — like weather, news, calendar. And all of this should be displayed seamlessly on the mirror glass like magic. And if you want Alexa to play some music, sure we would like that too.
